The NTA respond to the growing dissatisfaction by explaining that the decision to award grace marks was made to address issues face by candidates, such as time loss due to the distribution of wrong question papers or torn OMR sheets. However, this move has faced criticism, especially with reports of students scoring exceptionally high marks due to the grace marks.

Proposed Re-test and Counselling Sessions:

In a significant development, the central government propose a re-test for 1,563 candidates who were award grace marks. Those who do not wish to appear for the re-test will have their original marks (without grace marks) considered. This decision came after the Supreme Court’s notice and the ongoing controversy surrounding NEET 2024.

The Supreme Court addressed three petitions related to the NEET 2024 controversy. Including concerns raised by Alakh Pandey, the CEO of ‘Physics Wallah’. Regarding the allocation of grace marks by the NTA. Pandey has requested the court to establish an expert panel to investigate the examination process and results of NEET UG 2024.
